The Role of Local Farmers in Addressing Community Food Needs

The Good Table Foundation was invited to engage in a discussion with Castine’s gardening club regarding the pivotal role of farming in addressing community food needs. During the meeting, we explored the following key points:

  • One thing that differentiates GTF from most farmers in Hancock County is that we cultivate our Soil-Less Green® fresh produce year-round.
  • GTF’s primary mission is to address hunger.
  • For those who don’t have the resources to cover their basic needs, fresh, healthy food is often the first to be sacrificed.
  • In 2025, GTF donated a little over 8,000 pounds of fresh produce.
